Whether you are pregnant for the first time or not, it is important to be aware of and cater to the changes your body will undergo as your pregnancy progresses. As with everything, ongoing research and development, testing and trialling mean improvements to the design and construction of pregnancy bras is evident. Don't just haul out your old one, or a stretched favourite from the back of the drawer! Invest in a pregnancy bra which will give you shape, support, comfort and chic and stylish designs. You can still feel sexy!
I recommend being fitted for your pregnancy bra by a professional bra fitter. The bra you choose must be designed in a manner that accommodates the following:
Health - ensure your bra does not have underwire. This can restrict the growth changes in breast size and shape during pregnancy and restrict milk flow during breastfeeding which can lead to painful conditions such as mastitis. This often means an end to breastfeeding or at the very least causes an unnecessary interruption as you will need to treat the condition with antibiotics which can cross over to your baby via your breast milk.
Comfort - as with all pregnancy and breastfeeding lingerie, your bra needs to be lined with super soft cotton for absorption and breathability. The seams should be constructed in such a way that they will not cause rubbing or chafing to sensitive tissue areas. Wider bra straps and back adjusters will allow for comfort when your bust and diaphragm expand.
Practical - one handed maternity clips are a must - you will probably not have both hands free! Make sure there are plenty of eyes, preferably six, at the back of the pregnancy bra to allow for growth and breast fluctuation. The bra must also be made of superior and durable fabrics because it will be washed more frequently than your regular lingerie.
All this said, you must still choose a pregnancy bra which looks gorgeous and makes you feel chic and stylish. It is possible, they are definitely out there! As important as the practicalities of your maternity lingerie is the need for a woman to feel feminine and radiant. Choosing a well fitted, superbly designed pregnancy bra with matching underwear, or perhaps a camisole, will make you feel confident and gorgeous. If you feel this way, those ups and downs all women experience during pregnancy and breastfeeding, are just that little bit less demanding.
Make sure you get fitted with your pregnancy bra as soon as you feel discomfort with your regular lingerie. This is usually around three to four months and then again at seven months or so. A good fit is one that is comfortable, gives you great shape and makes you feel ravishing! If you are well fitted at the store you choose to visit, that second bra you buy should take you through the arrival of your baby and beyond. A good way to ensure you are accommodating the inevitable growth of your breasts is by sliding your hand into the upper cup section to make sure there is enough room for growth.
Sometimes the small things in life can make a huge difference. It is definitely the case with your maternity and breastfeeding lingerie. Make sure you select the right pregnancy bra for you!
